Australia travel blog: Introduction

Hello there. This is Sarah just checking in, doing a bit of an intro post to my travel blog.
I decided to forget about my original plan to make a blog based on Tumblr, after I found that when I was typing entries the cursor struggled to keep up with my typing speed and was missing out letters which very quickly became absolutely infuriating.
I remembered a friend of mine, Sabrina, suggesting blogger/Blogspot to me a few months back as an alternative to Tumblr. I had a quick faff about in the template editor etc...and found it suited my needs much better! So here I am.

This blog will be a way of me documenting my 3 week long trip to Australia; leaving on the 18th of October (arriving the 20th. In all honesty there's something suspiciously time travely about it all. The journey takes less than 24 hours and yet I arrive about 36 hours from when I started...It's mind boggling. I will, for all intents and purposes, be traveling to the future. Only 9 hours into the future, but the future nonetheless!) and returning on the 12th of November.

I'll be flying from Glasgow on the Friday, with a short stop-over at Dubai and a 7 hour one at Bangkok, and arriving in Sydney at 8.45am on the Sunday (Time travel I tell you!), where Alicia will hopefully be picking me up according to plan. (She's mentioned making a sign for me so I can recognise them at the airport - I'm not sure whether I should be excited or worried. Haha!). Hopefully I don't get held up for too long at customs.

To be honest, I think I have heightened expectations for the whole 'customs and immigration' experience in Aus because I've watched entirely too many episodes of 'Nothing to Declare'.
I am an over-thinker and a worrier, and although it will probably be a simple and straight forward process without incident, my mind gets carried away and I imagine being held up for hours and strip searched because they've found a concealed piece of grass or leaf that's snuck its way into the folds of my suitcase. This sh*t happens people!

My other concern is that something will happen to my luggage in transit.
Either; it gets lost or 'misplaced' and I end up having to go a few days without my own clothes before it's returned to me by the airline (with compensation for the return flight - *ahem* upgrade to business class *ahem*.
Or even worse, I'll be standing patiently waiting at the baggage carousel and around the corner appears an item of underwear that's escaped from it's baggage (through a hole/tear caused by heavy-handed baggage handlers). And my first thought is 'Oh, that poor person. They must be so embarrassed! I wonder if they've noticed that it's their pants yet' followed by the slow realisation, as my suitcase rounds the corner after it with an almighty rip in the side, pants and bikinis spilling from within and strewn all around it, that they are in fact my pants.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I've invested in some nice new underwear for my holiday ;)

Fingers crossed that the journey goes smoothly, there'll be enough time for excitement once I've arrived...
