The Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves

Headed up to the Blue mountains early in the morning on Friday the 25th of October, but we had a little breakdown (coil packs knackered!) and had to borrow Cameron's car for the weekend!

We ended up at Penrith shopping centre waiting on Cameron. Filled the time by getting a delicious wrap for lunch! There is so much food to choose from here, definitely going to miss that!

4 hours later....and we were on our way to Katoomba which was our home for the next couple of days

 The Three Sisters, Katoomba

The Three Sisters and Mount Solitary

Everyone always says this but the photos really don't do it justice. The views were absolutely breath-taking and it was a looong way down to the forest floor below. Eucalyptus trees for as far as you could see, interrupted only by the sandstone outcrops around the edge of the valleys and creeks below

We actually thought we would have trouble getting into the mountains. There were bush fires burning in the weeks before and many of the roads had been closed to where we wanted to go. When we got up there it was like a ghost town as everyone had assumed everything was shut down. Everything was open however, and we spent a lovely couple of days exploring Leura and Katoomba, although the national parks were closed so we weren't able to venture down into the valley below

These steps were part of the Giant's staircase, which descends from Echo point down into the valley, but we were only able to get as far as the first of the three sisters and from there the path down was closed. Just as well really, it was very steep and hard-going on the legs!

Yummy dinner at a little place in Katoomba called the Yellow Deli. It was the cutest little place. Very hippy/bohemian style and all the men working there had beards. After reading the back of the menu it became clear that they were some sort of hippy commune. It also mentioned something about 'the messiah'...it was all a bit culty but the food was good. Needless to say, I didn't drink the coolade.

Took a trip on the scenic skyway - a cable car with a glass floor that spans across the falls from cliff top to cliff top. Very high but great views!

Katoomba mountain railway - steepest in the world. Very fun, especially sitting at the front on the way down!

Chilling by the pool. I got very burnt that afternoon!

The Healing pool. The blue colour comes from the limestone rocks beneath. Very beautiful

Water dragon sunning himself. I can't remember if this is the one that scared the crap out of Alicia or not. Still funny.

Lovely little swimming hole
